LO1 Analysis of an existing graphic design work: Tramlines Festival

a). The purpose of this Tramlines flyer is to advertise the Tramlines festival. This is because flyers are very common for festivals as they help to attract a large crowd. The designs purpose is to attract people with bright colours and an unforgettable colour scheme. The purpose of the logo is to become renowned and iconic and the purpose and the t shirts purpose is for free advertising.

b). The format of the flyer shows a clean, minimalistic design that connotes the modernism and trendiness of the festival. This format is a common format for festivals as they try to format there flyers around their young modern target audience, this connotes the importance of format to sales. The format of the t shirt is that the logo is in the center of the shirt, this makes it center of attention.

c). There is lots of contents on the flyer, the first being that there is the logo at the top, however the logo has been tucked out of the way into the top left corner. This connotes that the designers of the flyer obviously wanted its audience to look straight to the band and artist line up, rather that the logo and name of the festival. Another piece of content that is noticeable is the pricing. This is tucked into the corner but is also slightly larger that the majority of the print on the flyer. This could connotes that the designers want there audience to notice the price but not straight away, maybe as an after thought. However the two most eye catching and apparent pieces of content are the date, website and two major headliners. This is because the font size has been enlarged so that they are all the same size but a lot bigger than any other font on the page, this connotes that the designers want there audience to notice above all else the headliners, then the date and then the website in that order. This is so that there the audience look if they like the bands playing they immediately look at the date to see if they can make it and then they look for the website to see where to book there tickets. The t shirt contains one single design intended to be eye catching.

d).  The style of the tramlines flyer is very modern and stylistic as it is has a basic layout on top of a flat red background with clean white and blue font and a few bits of tasteful graphics. This style directly denotes to the young target audience. The style of the t shirt seems to a baggy design which certainly denotes a style of youthful fashion.

e).  The layout of the the flyer is very centered and straight in a way vary formal. This could connote to the designers wanting to aim for there target audience again. However this formalised layout is balanced out by the informal colour scheme.

f).  The target audience for these pieces are students and young adults aging from 17-24, of any gender or any ethnicity. These would most likely be from from Sheffield or surrounding local areas.

g). None of the pieces break any of the Advertising Standards Agencies code of conduct as there is no offensive content, glorify alcohol or exaggerate the product in any way. The materials used to make both the flyer and the logo on the t shirt where copyright free and would have been created for the purpose of these products.
